The Patton Allison Memorial Lecture was established in 2026 to honor the life, work, and enduring impact of Dr. Patton Allison, a cherished member of the Michigan State University community. His intellectual curiosity, technical excellence, generosity of spirit, and enthusiasm for aerospace engineering lives on to inspire the next generation.
Jenni Gibbons, PhD
Astronaut - Canadian Space Agency
Dr. Jenni Gibbons will deliver the Patton Allison Inaugural Lecture in memory of her former colleague whose own work and teaching embodied the spirit of exploration. Jenni will outline the process of training for spaceflight to serving as a backup crew member for Artemis II, NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in over fifty years. From the rigor and expectations of astronaut training, the discipline of mission preparation, and the reality of supporting a crew from Mission Control, this lecture will explore what it truly means to contribute to human spaceflight. Gibbons earned a bachelor of engineering degree from McGill University and a PhD in engineering from the University of Cambridge. She joined the Canadian Space Agency in 2017.
