Lab setting with students working on equipment

The College of Engineering’s Technology Engineering (TechE) program will soon have a new home in Wilson Hall at Michigan State University.

The MSU Board of Trustees approved renovations on Feb. 6 to create modern instructional laboratory space at 219 Wilson Road for the College of Engineering’s newest undergraduate degree program.

The former dining space, which has been closed since August 2020, is slated for completion in fall semester 2027 and will feature hands-on learning environments, including state-of-the-art laboratories designed to support experiential instruction.

“The College of Engineering is grateful for the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the university on converting the Wilson Hall space into Technology Engineering Learning Labs,” said John Papapolymerou, interim dean of the College of Engineering. “The renovations will bring new life and vibrancy into a space that has been a meaningful place for so many Spartans.”

Developed in 2024 through extensive industry collaboration and in partnership with the Office of the Provost, the TechE program is aimed at increasing enrollment in technology and engineering disciplines while preparing students to meet the state’s growing workforce development needs.

The TechE degree program offers a unique blend of engineering and computer science, tailored to address the engineering challenges of coding and computer science integrated into modern engineered systems. Hands-on learning labs will support courses in areas such as electronics and embedded systems, robotics and automation, computer aided manufacturing, prototyping, hardware security, and senior capstone design.
