Engineering Digital Badge Program
The Center’s Digital Badge Program offers current spartan engineers the opportunity to pursue professional development training and share new skills on their online profiles.
What is a digital badge?
A digital badge allows you to demonstrate knowledge and abilities you've developed through a variety of co-curricular learning opportunities. When shared on your online profile, the badge displays detailed information including the date of completion, associated skills, and requirements met to earn the credential.
How does it work?
Upon successful completion of a program's requirements, you'll receive a link to a digital badge that can be instantly shared on LinkedIn, added to email signatures, or included in job applications.
Engineering Career Readiness Badge
The Career Readiness Badge is designed to recognize engineering students who intentionally engage in experiences that develop career readiness, professional skills, industry awareness, and lifelong career management habits.
Students can earn up to 4 Badges:
1. Career Foundations Badge
- How to earn: Complete EGR 291 Career Development Course
- Get started: Learn more about the career course here. To enroll, log into Student Information System (SIS) (opens in a new window) and search for the course.
- Collect your badge: Upon receiving a passing grade for the course, students will be emailed a link to a digital badge.
2. Industry Immersion Badge
Connecting classroom learning to engineering careers.
- How to earn: Earn 100 points by completing activities from at least three different activity categories (see list below).
- Get started: Make sure to check in at approved events to verify your attendance. Once you earn 100 points, email the program leads to request approval. There is no strict deadline. Students can collect points over a single semester, an academic year, or throughout the four years leading up to graduation.
- Collect your badge: Once approved, students will be emailed with a link to a digital badge.

* Students may request consideration for industry-related experiences not listed above. Approved activities will receive points at the discretion of the program team.
3. Financial Literacy Badge
Personal financial readiness for early career success
- How to earn: Awarded to students who pass 8 of 10 approved financial literacy courses focused on budgeting, credit, compensation, financial decision-making, and financial preparedness for life after graduation.
- Get started: Search for “Financial Literacy” under Events in Handshake.
- Collect your badge: Once program administrators have verified your participation and approval, students will be emailed with a link to a digital badge.
4. Career Collective Scholar Badge
Sustained career engagement and exploration through graduation
- How to earn: Awarded to students who maintain active participation in the Career Collective and demonstrate sustained engagement in career development, experiential learning, and employer engagement throughout their time at MSU.
- Get started: Learn more about the Career Collective program. It’s easy to join! Students in the program are supported by a network of career coaches and faculty/staff collaborators who assist with career readiness, employer connections, and academic alignment.
- Collect your badge: Program administrators will email eligible students a link to a digital badge upon graduation.
