Larry Leinweber and Dean John Papapolymerou at Leinweber beam signing event

Message from the Dean

Welcome to a new academic year!

We’re off to an incredible start with students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and valued collaborators blazing a trail for Spartan Engineering success. From the 5,417 undergraduate and 899 graduate students who call our college home this fall to the talented researchers and proposal teams holding research expenditures steady at $67.8M and the 2,112 donors who made the historic $100M year of giving a reality, we are grateful for every doer and believer who helps us sustain momentum and build a bright future.

With a focus on serving as a destination for world-class education and a driver of discovery that benefits society, we’re celebrating many exciting advancements this fall including progress on the Leinweber Center for Engineering and Digital Innovation, the addition of seven new faculty, a $30M NSF grant to establish a turbulence research center, a $20M NSF grant to build for the future of space and semiconductors, and continued expansion of AI education for students and working professionals.
