The dual PhD program between Michigan State University and Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) is helping reverse an international trend of Indian students going abroad to pursue their higher education.

One is conducting materials science research at the DuPont Experimental Station in Delawareanother has returned to his IACMI internship in Detroit; two others are working in Michigan State University's advanced composite materials research labs in East Lansing.

MSU's Innovation Center hosted the annual Innovation Celebration April 19, highlighting ground-breaking technology from MSU labs and startup companies from across campus. The MSU Innovation of the Year Award was presented to Donald Morelli, chair and professor of chemical engineering and materials science, for his work in thermoelectric technology.

Engineers have been working for years to develop a more convenient way to monitor blood pressure. Now, researchers at MSU and the University of Maryland appear to have succeeded. Research led by senior author Ramakrishna Mukkamala, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has devised a smart way to detect hypertension sooner with a new blood pressure app. Anand Chandrasekhar, electrical and computer engineering doctoral student, is the lead author.

The College of Engineering celebrated the opening of a new lab space for the Materials Simulation Laboratory in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (CHEMS) on Monday, Aug. 7. The lab has an open floor plan and is located in Room 1105 on the first floor of the College of Engineering Building.
