Congratulations professors Chan, Pennock, and Udpa
Three professors in the College of Engineering are among the 10 newest University Distinguished Professors at Michigan State University. The recognition - which honors achievements in the classroom, laboratory, and community -- is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a faculty member at MSU.

Michigan State University in East Lansing is working with two other universities to develop a freshwater recovery system to extract clean irrigation water from hydraulic fracking wastewater. The reclaimed water could help western states that need it for crops and livestock. Investigators are Andre Benard, working with James Klausner, both of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
TMS Fellow
Thomas Bieler, a professor of chemical engineering and materials science at Michigan State University, has been named a Fellow of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). The honor is presented to less than 1 percent of the 13,000 members. There are currently less than 100 active fellows in the society.

National Academy of Inventors
Lawrence Drzal of Michigan State University has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Class of 2018. Drzal is a University Distinguished Professor of chemical engineering and materials science and the director of the MSU Composite Materials and Structures Center.
