Engineers have been working for years to develop a more convenient way to monitor blood pressure. Now, researchers at MSU and the University of Maryland appear to have succeeded. Research led by senior author Ramakrishna Mukkamala, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has devised a smart way to detect hypertension sooner with a new blood pressure app. Anand Chandrasekhar, electrical and computer engineering doctoral student, is the lead author.
New Materials Simulation Lab
The College of Engineering celebrated the opening of a new lab space for the Materials Simulation Laboratory in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (CHEMS) on Monday, Aug. 7. The lab has an open floor plan and is located in Room 1105 on the first floor of the College of Engineering Building.

Michigan State University co-hosted Road 2 Composites, an automotive and transportation workshop focused on scale-up, lightweighting, and high volume composites, May 16-17 in the Composite Vehicle Research Center (CVRC).
Lalita Udpa
Lalita Udpa of Michigan State University is one of only nine women in the country featured in a story on "Women in NDT" in the March edition of Materials Evaluation. NDT stands for Nondestructive Testing, which is very similar to noninvasiveimaging in biomedical applications.

Applied Research Associates Inc. (ARA), a scientific and engineering research company headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., has opened an innovation center within the University Corporate Research Park, just south of the Michigan State University campus, the MSU Foundation announced Feb. 15.
