What can a hacker do with your stolen fingerprints? There are multiple ways to fool fingerprint readers, according to Anil Jain, who heads the Biometrics Research Group at MSU. Stolen fingerprints are more helpful to hackers if they also have the metadata since two-factor security systems often require both conventional passwords and fingerprint scans. Jain is a University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering.

The sensors that Nizar Lafnef, of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and his team of researchers are installing on the Mackinac Bridge were featured in Forbes Magazine: Michigan's Mighty Mackinac Bridge has mega monitoring system powered by traffic. West Michigan development stalled as township studies groundwater issue. A study was released in August 2018 by Ottawa County in a partnership including the MSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Results yielded that the volume of groundwater in Ottawa County has decreased over the past 50 years, and the groundwater that remains has increasing levels of chloride and salt.
