A 2020 graduate in civil engineering, with a concentration in transportation and pavements, has been awarded $5,000 from the Women's Transportation Seminar to advance her engineering career and educational aspirations.

Divya Iyer was one of six international scholarship winners during the WTS Annual Business Meeting on May 21. Around 700 participants attended the annual meeting.
Iyer was selected to receive the Sharon Banks Memorial Scholarship, offered by the WTS Michigan Chapter. It is the second time that an MSU winner of a local WTS Michigan Chapter scholarship has won at the international level.
"Although I will be starting my career in industry this summer, this award will facilitate some of my short-term goals," Iyer explained. "I intend to use this generous scholarship toward securing my PE professional licensure and going to graduate school."
She has accepted a full-time position in the rotational program of the Michigan Department of Transportation. She had served as an intern for MDOT.
"My career goals center around building bridges - not only physical but also personal and humanitarian bridges. Among the most important engineering and life skills that I've learned is effective communications.
"I'd like to thank the civil engineering faculty at MSU and professionals that have been instrumental in guiding me down this path and for helping facilitate an environment where I can grow as an individual and professional," she added.
