CoRe Community Service Event

Spartan Engineers volunteer with Lansing Food Bank

Spartans are known for pitching in to help. From top to bottom are: Val Vargas, Kailey Head, Faith Call, and Patty Lare.

During this year's CoRe student employment training, Spartan Engineers participated in a community service activity through the Lansing Food Bank Community Garden Project.

Their diligent efforts provided emergency food to individuals and families in need throughout mid-Michigan.

CoRe Peer Leaders Jorge Penalozano, Dayana Villagran, and Natalie Knisley led a group of students in three local gardens, where they harvested vegetables and spread mulch.

"It felt good being able to give back to the community where I have spent two years of my life," Penalozano said. "It is such a great way to connect with the surroundings and to go out of the college environment and more into what Lansing really is."

CoRe plans to host more community service events like this one throughout the academic year to nurture this ongoing passion of giving.
