Engineering Dean Leo Kempel: "MSU is all-in on EV technology in Michigan and beyond"
Michigan State University and its College of Engineering have a long history of building and improving technology that benefits the automotive industry.
Spartan Engineers are now taking this effort to the next level.
College of Engineering Dean Leo Kempel explains in his recent column for Crain’s Detroit Business that faculty members and students have made noteworthy progress in EV and semiconductor research.
“Like with any new technology, there are plenty of challenges in the EV and semiconductor sectors,” Kempel wrote. “MSU is positioned well to continue being a leader in EV technology and semiconductors.”
College of Engineering researchers has made significant progress in finding answers to these types of questions:
- How safe is it to charge EV batteries at home?
- Are batteries able to be recycled?
- Can these batteries be reused in vehicles?
- Will there be enough EV chargers for everyone who needs them?
The college also has developed strategic partnerships with the State of Michigan and other academic institutions to form an EV Scholars Program that sends skilled talent to employers in need.
