Mechanical engineering alumna reappointed to state climate council

A Michigan State University College of Engineering alumna has been reappointed to Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Council on Climate Solutions. 

The Oakland Press reported Tuesday, March 20 that Cynthia Williams, who studied mechanical engineering at MSU, has been reappointed to the council. 

Williams serves as Ford Motor Company's global director of sustainability, homologation and compliance.

She plays a key role in the company's efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and lead the automotive industry's transition to electric vehicles, according to the company's website. 

Williams holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MSU and a master's degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. 

Whitmer's Council on Climate Solutions was created in 2020 as an advisory board in the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). 

It acts as an advisory group to Whitmer and the state Office of Climate and Energy in overseing the implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan. 

Williams gave a TED talk last year entitled "The secret perks of driving electric." You can watch it on the TED website.
