Student Highlight: Suhas Rao Cheeti

Third-year computer science major Suhas Rao Cheeti put his broadening IT experiences to practical uses this summer during an internship at the MADE Institute in Flint, MI.

The institute is a non-profit organization focused on violence prevention and workforce development for at-risk youth and returning citizens.

Cheeti’s position is centered around technology assistance for the non-profit, including building an app to help create and manage intake forms for those needing help from the agency’s programs for the underserved in the community.

“Working at the MADE Institute has allowed me to put what I’ve learned in classes to practice,” Chetti said. “My data collection and software classes have been especially helpful as they have given me background knowledge in what goes into an app and what programs are needed.”

This internship was made available through the MSU College of Social Science 2024 Study Away program. It provides students with an internship related to their major in various locations throughout the United States. The goal of the program is to discover different opportunities and apply classroom knowledge in professional settings.

“This internship has helped solidify my decision of going into the Design and Development side of Computer Science,” said Cheeti. “This is thanks to The MADE Institute, which gave me the freedom and time to develop something, like their app, and in a way showed me how enjoyable coding can be.”
