Three Minute Thesis winners announced

The 2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition helped graduate students in the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Engineering cultivate their presentation and communication skills. The annual contest was part of this year’s Engineering Graduate Research Symposium, which was held on May 8 in the Engineering Building.

Faculty in each College of Engineering academic department selected one 3MT finalist based on their 3MT presentations. Winners received stipends and a certificate, presented by S. Patrick Walton, associate dean for academic programs.

Earning first-place honors and the mechanical engineering department award was Adam Chrzan. His advisor is Tamara Reid Bush, associate dean for inclusion and diversity and a professor of mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering.

Top awards were also presented to:

  • Second place: Colin O’Hern, biomedical engineering (Advisor: Aitor Aguirre)
  • Third place: Joelle Eaves, chemical engineering and materials science (Advisor: Daniel Woldring)
  • People’s Choice Award: Ankur Kamboj, electrical and computer engineering (Advisor: Vaibhav Srivastava)

Other department award winners were:

  • Narindra Randriamiarintsoa, biosystems engineering (Advisor: Bradley Marks)
  • Farish Jazlan, civil and environmental engineering (Advisor: Ali Zockaie)
  • Xinyi (Elena) Wang, computational mathematics, science and engineering (Advisor: Elizabeth Munch)
  • Yiwen Hu, computer science and engineering (Advisors: Li Xiao and Guan-Hua Tu)

Additionally, more than 100 poster presentations during the 2025 Engineering Graduate Research Symposium offered students an opportunity to communicate their research story to industry representatives, alumni, faculty, staff and others.

Best Poster Awards went to:

  • Scott Anthony, mechanical engineering
  • Jiabin Liu, mechanical engineering
  • Sema Athamnah, biomedical engineering
  • Tianyi Ma, computer science
  • Raghav Bihani, mechanical engineering
  • Mandela Quashie, computational mathematics, science and engineering
  • Ankush Jha, civil engineering
  • Tejeswar Rayala, structural engineering
  • Maggie Lee, biomedical engineering
  • Sajjad Vosoughinia, civil engineering
