Dean's Showcase of Stars

Showcase of Stars 2023, group of students who won all gathered for a photo-op

The Dean's Showcase of Stars (DSOS) Event is an esteemed annual event held at Michigan State University's College of Engineering for students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and involvement with the Engineering Inclusion and Diversity (EGRID) offices.

All engineering students are invited to apply for a DSOS scholarships. Several types of achievements are recognized through our DSOS event including academic excellence and contributions to the Engineering Inclusion and Diversity (EGRID) mission. All students who have achievements and involvement in these areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

One of the key features of the Showcase is the substantial scholarship funds awarded to deserving students. In recent years, over $100,000 worth of scholarships was distributed each year among the outstanding attendees. To qualify for these scholarships, students are required to submit their applications in January, with the winners announced and honored during the Showcase of Stars event in February.

Several prominent companies actively participated in the event, including Aptiv, Boeing, Consumers Energy, GE Aerospace, General Mills, Marathon, PPG, Whirlpool, ZF, and 3M. The companies who attend the event can provide students with insights into potential career paths and internship/full-time opportunities, making it an excellent platform for engineering students to network and connect with these companies outside of a traditional career fair.

In addition to the corporate-funded scholarships, the Showcase of Stars also offers alumni-funded scholarships, including The Clifton J. Alexander Memorial Scholarship, The Playmakers Scholarship, The P.U.S.H. Scholarship (Providing for Undergraduate Students facing Hardship), and the Rosa L. Wilkins Scholarship, further enhancing the event.

During the awards ceremony, scholarship recipients are recognized for their outstanding achievements in several key areas, including academic excellence and outstanding contributions to Engineering Inclusion and Diversity. Those who receive scholarships are also provided with an opportunity during the ceremony to connect with corporate partners, many of whom are also sponsors of DSOS awards.

Applications for 2025 will open by January 6th and will be due by January 31st, 2025.
