Data-enabled Water Sustainability and Equity

Graduate Certificate

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Program Details

The graduate certificate program will equip students with fundamental knowledge of the three dimensions of the WaterCube and with skills to integrate these areas for understanding and addressing real-world water issues. The graduate certificate program will require students to complete a series of four courses, for a total of 10 credits. Students will have options for how to fulfill several of the course requirements. This flexibility allows students to incorporate certificate requirements into their programs of study without extending their time to degree and recognizes that student needs differ given that they come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ideally, the first three course requirements (DWSE-1, DWSE-2, DWSE3) will be completed during Year 1 and Year 2 of the student’s graduate program, and DWSE-4 will be completed in Year 3.

  • DWSE-1: Water: A Global Perspective. This 1-credit seminar will provide an overview of global water issues, threats and solutions through lectures and discussion.
  • DWSE-2: Students will be required to take one 3-credit (minimum) data science course.
  • DWSE-3: Students will be required to take one 3-credit social science course that focuses on issues of conservation, sustainability, equity, and/or justice.
  • DWSE-4: Students will take one 3-credit experiential learning course.
