The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers the following undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
The linked program allows students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply for admission to the master of science (M.S.) degree program. If accepted, up to 9 credits from their MSU undergraduate program may also be counted toward the requirements for a master’s degree. These credits must be at the 400-level or above.
Admission to the program requires a minimum grade-point average of 3.0.
Students should apply in their junior or senior year. Students should apply for admission to the M.S. program prior to the first semester in which they plan to take a course that would count toward both degrees. (For example, if you take a course in the Fall Semester and use that course toward the 30 required M.S. credits, then you must apply to the M.S. program during the preceding Spring Semester). You cannot use courses already completed in previous semesters or courses that you are currently enrolled in for the Dual B.S./M.S. program.
Find an initial M.S. advisor in the focus area of interest (e.g., environmental/water resources, geotechnical/pavements, structures, transportation). The Graduate Director can assist in identifying this advisor.
Begin an application to the M.S. program in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The university graduate application system is found on the following website - https://grad.msu.edu/apply. Complete the required information, but do NOT pay the application fee. The fee is waived for Dual B.S./M.S. students. Inform the Graduate Secretary that you have completed the application, and they will assist in processing your request.
