Robofish and tracking antibiotics in the Great Lakes. "The idea is to put sensors on the robots so that you can gather data from different locations in an automated manner," said Xiaobo Tan, an MSU Foundation professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. By understanding the antibiotic levels in different parts of the lake, it should be easier to work out where they are coming from."

MSU Pride Points
• Nov. 4:
Chemical engineering students won four more national recognitions at this year's American Institute of Chemical Engineering Student Design Competition. MSU has the best record for placing in this national contest since 1967.

• Nov. 7: A senior in electrical engineering is making some noise for MSU with studies in object detection. Jorge Mateus will receive a Robert W. Young Award for Undergraduate Student Research in Acoustics in 2020.

• Nov. 11: Scientific breakthroughs don't always happen in labs. For Sophia and Richard Lunt, researchers in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science, many of their breakthroughs happen during daily walks. Their approach has revealed a new way to detect and attack cancer cells using technology traditionally reserved for solar power.

• Nov. 20: Christopher Mancuso, a postdoctoral researcher in MSU's Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering recently received a prestigious Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Individual National Research Service Award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at the National Institutes of Health for his work in computational biology.

• Nov. 21: Tanvi Nikhar, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, has been selected for the highly competitive two-week national seminar hosted by the U.S. Particle Accelerator School. She will study high brightness photocathode and photoinjector physics and applications.

• Nov. 25: For achievements in the advancement of thermal engineering research, MSU Foundation Professor James Klausner has been honored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers with the 2019 Heat Transfer Memorial Award. He is chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
