Jacque Shoppell will serve as interim director for the Division of Engineering Research (DER) in the MSU College of Engineering, starting Aug. 24.

She is currently the DER assistant director and has been a staff member at MSU for 35+ years.
Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies John Verboncoeur said Shoppell has been a leader on quality assurance of Engineering proposals, as well as a mentor to new research administrators.
"Jacque's knowledge of the wide range of funding agencies engaged by Engineering has been invaluable in mentoring our team of top-performing research administrators," he said. "She has ably led DER during several extended absences of the director, and has the full confidence, trust, and support of the Dean's Office to act as director during the search."
Shoppell has had a key role in improving the processes and performance of DER. She was instrumental in developing the improved fee for service process pioneered at MSU in the College of Engineering and now being used by other colleges as a best practice for eliminating over-expenditures.
She was also on the leadership team that helped the College of Engineering become the first college at MSU to transition to a fully electronic proposal management system, including pioneering many changes to the software to facilitate Engineering's diverse portfolio of research administration needs, which are now being adopted by other colleges.
Shoppell replaces DER Director Kelli Martin, who will become the chief financial officer for Traverse City.
