Civil and environmental engineering students at Michigan State University took some of the top honors this summer from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) - Great Lakes District.

Meghna Chakraborty, a doctoral student in transportation engineering, won the Daniel B. Fambro Outstanding Student Paper Award from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Great Lakes District this summer.
Her paper assessed the safety impacts associated with horizontal curve density on rural two-lane state and county road segments in Michigan.
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter at MSU won two top awards this summer. Spartan Engineers were awarded the Chapter Momentum Award and the Outstanding Chapter Award from the ITE Great Lakes District.

The Outstanding Section/Chapter Award is designed to encourage ITE Sections and Chapters to participate in activities that are aligned with the purpose and objectives of ITE.
The Chapter Momentum Award is new in 2020 and recognizes the Great Lakes District most improved student chapter.
MSU Foundation Professor Peter Savolainen, who is associate chair for graduate studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, serves as the MSU ITE chapter adviser.
