Since 1984, Tom Volkening has served as the Engineering Librarian at MSU Libraries in a role that made him "highly regarded and well-respected by Engineering faculty and staff for both his extensive research support and in-depth instruction to students."

Volkening served as head of the Engineering Library for 31 years in the Engineering Building and oversaw the transition of collections and services to the Main Library when the branch closed in 2015.
Today, he continues to serve as the sole library liaison to the entire College of Engineering as well as subject librarian for the Construction Management Program.
His skills and dedication have earned him the 2020 Career Achievement Award from MSU Libraries.
