The Michigan State University College of Engineering's new director of communications and marketing strategy has had 4 1/2 months in her new role at MSU - all of it working remotely from her home in the Grand Rapids area.
Kelley Monterusso joined the college in late August, replacing Francie Todd who retired in January 2020.
Monterusso's career experiences include strategic planning and execution within communications, marketing and organizational development roles. At MSU, she has begun developing and executing strategic brand communications that support the college's overall priorities with a focus on digital approaches and platforms.
"It truly is an honor to be a part of MSU and the fastest rising college of engineering in the nation. I am surrounded by talented colleagues and students, which makes for exciting work and a world of possibilities," shares Monterusso.
She comes to MSU from Grand Valley State University's Kirkhof College of Nursing, where she served as director of communications and external relations and in the dean's office for the last eight years.
Before working in higher education, she spent more than 20 years in similar roles within risk management, public accounting, and information technology.
Monterusso received a bachelor's degree in marketing from Davenport University, a master's degree in communications from Grand Valley State University, and is currently a doctoral student at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in Education.
She lives in the Grand Rapids area with her husband and two children.
