The U.S. Department of Energy is an executive department of the federal government that oversees national energy policy.

Nathan Denning, a Civil and Environmental Engineering undergraduate student, has been awarded the Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program at the U.S. Department of Energy.

This summer, Denning will conduct a 10-week onsite internship at the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh.

"Nathan's achievements are a testament to his hard work and the supportive environment provided by our research group, department, and college," said Qingxu “Bill” Jin, a CEE assistant professor. "I am grateful for these opportunities that not only enhance their educational journey but also pave the way for significant contributions to their research."

Denning was a MSU College of Engineering professorial assistant in Fall 2022 with a research focus on resilient and sustainable concrete infrastructure.

After a successful internship with the EnSURE program in summer 2023, Denning also secured a NASA Michigan Space Grant Consortium Undergraduate Fellowship Award for the 2023-24 academic year.
