Manufacturing experts believe 3-D printing has a bright future for multiple industries.

A Michigan State University College of Engineering researcher has co-written the foreword for Automation Alley's latest report on additive manufacturing.

Patrick Kwon, a mechanical engineering professor, agrees with Automation Alley CEO Tom Kelley that this technology will dramatically change the manufacturing industry.

They wrote technology like 3-D printing will "be the vanguard of change in Industry 4.0, a linchpin of technological advancement, a force in sustainability and a herald of change in manufacturing philosophy."

Kwon and Kelley also wrote "3D printing's ability to be more precise and rapidly customizable than traditional machining will ensure its status as more than a trend, but an enduring force in the production landscape of tomorrow."

The College of Engineering became an Automation Alley member this year. Automation Alley's additive manufacturing report can be read here.

Kwon's research focuses on material issues in manufacturing design and processes. He also specializes in the mechanical behavior of materials. For more information, visit his profile page.
