When Jason Smith, teaching specialist for EGR 102, realized his students weren't engaging with their class materials, he made changes to help first-year engineering students better comprehend their lessons.
EGR 102 - Introduction to Engineering Modeling - is a two-credit course offered every semester at MSU. Students learn basic mathematical modeling techniques and engineering problem solving skills by engaging with real-life engineering problems.

The changes Smith made in teaching EGR 102 earned him an Online Course Award of Excellence at this summer's MSU AT&T Faculty Awards ceremony.
Innovative teaching in the College of Engineering earns university wide recognition.
