Yunhao Liu

New head of MSU's Department of Computer Science and Engineering is MSU Foundation Professor

CSE Chairperson designee Yunhao Liu is the editor-in-chief of "Transactions on Sensor Networks."

Yunhao Liu is settling in at Michigan State University as the new chairperson designee of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE);.

An MSU Foundation Professor, his research interests are in sensor network and pervasive computing; peer-to-peer computing, the Internet of things (IOT), and supply chain. 

He served as the Chang Jiang Chair Professor and Dean of the School of Software in Tsinghua University, China, from 2013 through 2017. 

He is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is editor-in-chief of ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks. 

Liu is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and currently serves as the honorary chair of ACM China Council. 

Liu served on the faculty of the Department of Computer Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 2004 through 2011 and the School of Information Technology at Tsinghua University from 2011 through 2013. 

He is the recipient of the IOT Young Achievement Award from the China Computer Federation (2016), the ACM Presidential Award (2013), and the NSF China Distinguished Young Scholar Award (2011). 

Liu is a two-time graduate of Michigan State, receiving a master's of science degree (2003) and PhD (2004) in CSE. He also received a master of arts degree from the Beijing Foreign Studies University in China. His bachelor's degree is from the Automation Department of Tsinghua University.

Yunhao Liu received the MSU College of Engineering Computer Science and Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award in May 2017.
