Alex Zevalkink receives Endowed Associate Professorship

Alex Zevalkink receives C. Robert and Kathryn M. Weir Endowed Associate Professorship

A Michigan State University College of Engineering Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science professor has been recognized for her devotion and skill in teaching.

Alex Zevalkink now holds the C. Robert and Kathryn M. Weir Endowed Associate Professorship. This professorship was established through a gift from C. Robert and Kathryn Weir.

She specializes in energy and materials research and was notified of the honor in mid-August.

Zevalkink joined the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in 2016.

Zevalkink received her B.S. from Michigan Technological University in 2008 and her Ph.D. at the California Institute of Technology in 2014.

After completing her Ph.D., she pursued postdoctoral research at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany.

Her research focus is on the relationship between the atomic structure and bonding in inorganic materials and the resulting elastic, thermal and electronic properties.

Endowed professors and assistant professors at MSU are considered leaders in the classroom and their respective fields. Resources help them fund their research, build professional networks and enhance the teaching experiences in their classrooms.
