Christina Chan selected as Women in Chemical Engineering Excellence Award Winner
An MSU researcher has been selected for a national honor that recognizes her service to women within the chemical engineering field.
Christina Chan was recognized this month for earning a 2023 Women in Chemical (WIC) Engineering Excellence Award.
Chan is an Michigan State University College of Engineering professor and is chairperson of the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department (CHEMS).
Chan joined MSU in 2002 and earned her B.S. in chemical engineering from Columbia University and her M.S. and Ph. D. and in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to the WIC award, Chan was recently named a Fellow by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
This is considered the highest grade of members within the organization.
Chan was named chairperson of CHEMS in July after serving as the interim chairperson since August 2021.
Her research group has focused on a key aspect of diseases related to aging – namely, the role of saturated fatty acids.
This research has important consequences for a variety of afflictions ranging from cancer to liver dysfunction to Alzheimer’s disease.
