AhJanae Walton, a civil engineering student from Detroit, has been selected to represent Michigan State University as a member of the 2026 Homecoming Court.
Walton is one of 12 students named to this year’s court. Homecoming Court members are recognized for their leadership, achievements, service and contributions to the MSU community and serve as Spartan ambassadors at university, alumni and community events throughout the year.
A first-generation college student, Walton has made leadership, service and advocacy important parts of her MSU experience. She is particularly passionate about expanding access and representation in STEM and supporting students from backgrounds that have historically been underrepresented in higher education.
Her experiences at MSU have strengthened both her academic and personal growth while reinforcing the importance of community and creating opportunities for others.
As a Homecoming Court member, Walton said she is excited to give back to the university that has shaped her and connect with students, faculty and alumni throughout Homecoming and beyond.
“Your background, your journey and your voice matter especially in spaces where they haven’t always been represented,” Walton said. “Continue to uplift one another, lead with intention and create opportunities not just for yourself, but for those coming after you. That’s what it truly means to be a Spartan. Go Green!”
Following graduation, Walton plans to pursue a career in pipeline engineering within the oil and gas industry, focusing on the design, safety and reliability of infrastructure systems.
Beyond her professional goals, she hopes to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating access and opportunities for first-generation students and students of color.
MSU Homecoming Week will be held Oct. 5-10, bringing students, alumni and community members together for a week of campus traditions and events. The annual Homecoming Parade begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, and travels through downtown East Lansing and the MSU campus. The 2026 Homecoming Court will also participate in the parade, the Homecoming Parade Reception, the President’s Homecoming Tailgate and the Homecoming football game. The Spartans host Illinois at Spartan Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10.
