Venkatesh Kodur shares civil engineering expertise in TV interview
Michigan's Mackinac Bridge

An MSU College of Engineering civil engineering professor was interviewed last week by a Lansing-based TV station to offer his thoughts on the safety of Michigan's Mackinac Bridge.

Venkatesh Kodur, an expert in infrastructure safety, told WILX-TV he believes it's unlikely the bridge will experience any kind of disaster similar to the recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

Kodur said most bridges, like the Mackinac Bridge, are well-designed, structurally sound and should be considered safe.

Kodur's comments came on the day the state's Mackinac Bridge Authority met in Dimondale - near Lansing - to review an inspection report from its chief engineer.
