Biography
Haseung Chung's research focuses on the development of a new integrated manufacturing system to fabricate the product having very complex geometries most efficiently. First, the product will be decomposed based on its geometry. A relatively simple geometry can be machined from bulk material while directed energy deposition (DED) process will be applied to complex geometry but no assembly procedure is necessary by virtue of DED's characteristic. In order to enhance the part's quality, magnetic-field assisted finishing (MAF) will be also integrated in this system.
As a long term goal, he aims to produce fully heterogeneous composites using multiple materials by this new system. Also, his group is currently developing a large scale, rapid, and more accessible AM system for fabricating metal parts, leveraging the principles of both streolighography (SLA) and binder jet printing (BJP). The proposed system will integrate a digital light projection (DLP) engine which allows printing on a large surface area instantly enabling us to produce parts rapidly while maintaining a high resolution and fine details.
