Biography

Dr. Puneet Kumar is an Instructor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He teaches courses in structural engineering and engineering mechanics, including statics, bridge design, and the structural engineering specialization in the senior design course. He has taught more than 3000 students at MSU and has versatile experience of managing class sizes from 10 to 300. His research interests include Structural Fire Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Artificial Intelligence, Protective Design, and Sustainability. His research on structural fire performance of precast prestressed concrete (PC) structures has led to a new fundamental understanding of structural performance of PC structures under restrained conditions. The results from this research have shown significant deficiencies in current structural fire engineering building codes and standards and have provided innovative and cost-effective solutions to rectify the same. He has served on the PCI Fire committee and was a speaker on Structural Fire Engineering panel at the SEI 2024 conference at San Antonio. Dr. Puneet have also contributed to the development of new smart and resilient infrastructure in the USA by serving as a structural engineering consultant to the industry. He has worked on 30+ construction projects all over the world ranging from multimillion-dollar skyscrapers to billion-dollar mega construction projects.
