The Michigan State University College of Engineering recognized outstanding graduate students during its Graduate Awards Ceremony on April 30, celebrating doctoral research, academic achievement and the ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact. The annual awards highlight graduate students whose work reflects the breadth of Spartan Engineering, from artificial intelligence, advanced materials and biomedical innovation to sustainable infrastructure, environmental systems, computational modeling and mechanical design.

The 2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition helped graduate students in the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Engineering cultivate their presentation and communication skills. The annual contest was part of this year’s Engineering Graduate Research Symposium, which was held on May 8 in the Engineering Building.

Spartan Engineering students in the MSU College of Engineering have again nominated their favorite faculty members for the highly prized annual Withrow Teaching Excellence Awards. The teaching distinction is for distinguished service to the university and the student body.

The Michigan State University College of Engineering will recognize 17 top faculty and staff members for excellence in service and distinguished contributions during the 33rd Annual Engineering Awards. The honors are among the college’s most prestigious and will be presented on Wednesday, March 22, at 5:30 p.m. at the University Club.

As a high school student, Liz Munch decided she did not want to be a math nerd. So, she opted to pursue a music degree instead. Now an assistant professor jointly appointed in the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering and the Department of Mathematics, Munch has found her calling in an exciting area of math known as topological data analysis (TDA).

The 2019 Engineering Graduate Research Symposium at Michigan State University showcased 300 poster presentations and celebrated both the Outstanding Graduate Student Awards and the Fitch H. Beach Award nominees during ceremonies March 21 at the Breslin Center.

Two Spartan Engineers have been awarded a highly selective scholarship under the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Scholarship-for-Service Program (SMART). SMART was established by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing technical degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.
