The Michigan State University College of Engineering recognizes 18 faculty and staff members with awards for their excellence in service and distinguished contributions. Each year, faculty and staff are nominated by their colleagues, industry peers and students for the most prestigious honors the college offers.
Katy Luchini Colbry and Dirk Colbry's CyberAmbassadors program reaches 11K milestone
A free MSU College of Engineering-driven program developed to teach people how to work more effectively in interdisciplinary teams has catapulted its way into the international spotlight. CyberAmbassadors, led by faculty members Katy Luchini Colbry and Dirk Colbry, was created in 2017 with a National Science Foundation grant and recently hit the 11,000 participants mark.
Six Spartan Engineers receive All-University Awards
Faculty and staff members in the Michigan State University College of Engineering received six of MSU’s highest honors during the 2022-2023 All-University Awards on May 8.

Celebrating the best of Engineering graduate research
The 2022 Engineering Graduate Research Symposium at Michigan State University returns to the Breslin Center on Thursday, April 14. The 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. event is free and open to the public and is the first in-person graduate symposium since 2019, due to the pandemic. The event follows current campus protocols related to the pandemic, and face coverings are not currently required at this symposium.

Video celebrates graduating Spartan Engineers
Graduating Spartans - congratulations! While in-person celebrations are cancelled in December 2020, the College of Engineering is recognizing the accomplishments of its 350 undergraduate, master's and PhD graduates and sharing special words and messages at the Engineering Virtual Commencement Celebration.
NDSEG Fellowship: Katherine Skocelas
Katherine Skocelas, a PhD student in the MSU College of Engineering, has been awarded a three-year National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. She is one of two Spartan Engineers named an NDSEG Fellow this summer.
NDSEG Fellowship: Daniel Griffin
Daniel Griffin, a PhD student at Michigan State University, will study the factors that impact team resilience with the help of a three-year National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. He is one of two Spartan Engineers named an NDSEG Fellow this summer.

Sherpas of supercomputing
Alex Feltus and O. Vernon Burton occupy very different research realms at Clemson University, but they share a passion for digging up meaningful gems buried in mountains of data. Feltus, a computational biologist, looks for genetic secrets to improving agricultural production and fighting disease.
Supporting graduate students in STEM
The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRF) has selected three fellows from the Michigan State University College of Engineering. The program is the country's oldest graduate fellowship program that directly supports graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, fields.
Excellence in graduate education
The 2019 Engineering Graduate Research Symposium at Michigan State University showcased 300 poster presentations and celebrated both the Outstanding Graduate Student Awards and the Fitch H. Beach Award nominees during ceremonies March 21 at the Breslin Center.
2018 Achievements
Several important college leadership positions were established in 2018 -Yue Qi was chosen as Associate Dean for Inclusion and Diversity; Theo Caldwell was named Assistant Dean for Student Inclusion and Diversity; and Katy Colbry was appointed Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Services. Tim Hinds took over as Director of the First-Year Engineering CoRe program; Kyle Foster was promoted to Director of the Diversity Programs Office (DPO); and MSU Foundation Professor Yunhao Liu was named Chairperson Designee of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Inclusion and diversity
Two three-year grants will help the College of Engineering continue its efforts in building a more inclusive environment. Supported by the MSU Inclusion and Intercultural Initiative, the two new programs are designed to increase the number of women and underrepresented populations in research and leadership positions. Grant support in 2018-19 begins at $65,000.

MSU's plans to construct a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics facility in its 1940s power plant got national media notice, including ASEE FIRST Bell. MSU is spending nearly $100 million to renovate the former Shaw Lane power plant.
New assistant dean
Katy Luchini Colbry has been selected as the assistant dean for Graduate Student Services in the MSU College of Engineering. She has been involved for the past eight years in every major aspect of the graduate studies program in collaboration with Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Development Manooch Koochesfahani.
