Research Spotlight: Data initiative makes autonomous vehicles safer in all four seasons
If you’ve ever driven through a whiteout or dense fog you’ve experienced the danger of navigating with low visibility. Autonomous vehicles face the same challenge, especially in places with changing seasons because they were trained to operate in clear weather conditions.
Six Engineering faculty honored at 2025 Investiture

He is especially known for his pioneering work in scalable video coding, with broad applications for Internet and wireless streaming.

2017 ESV competition
The MSU team of Austin Winarski, Kyle Lammers, Ryan Ashbaugh, and Jason Merlo were among only three teams representing North America during the 25th International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV) in Detroit in June.
