New faculty 2020-21
The MSU College of Engineering has welcomed nine new faculty members this fall, adding to the diverse engineering and scientific talent available in the college. The college currently has 243 tenure-system faculty educators.
Retirement good byes
Nine faculty and staff members will have retired between August 2019 and August 2020 from the MSU College of Engineering. Two of the retiring Spartans totaled 58 years of service to the Composite Materials and Structures Center. Engineering Dean Leo Kempel thanked each of retirees for their contributions.
Wastewater-based epidemiology
Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Irene Xagoraraki, and PhD students Brijen Miyani and Liang Zhao, are working to make a difference in water quality and public health.
District honors from ITE
Civil and environmental engineering students at Michigan State University took some of the top honors this summer from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) - Great Lakes District.
International recognition
Peng Zhang of Michigan State University will receive the 2020 Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Early Achievement Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Only one award is presented internationally each year.
KDD 2020
Jiliang Tang, assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University, has been named a "Rising Star" in the international field of data mining and data science.
National biomechanics honor
An associate professor of mechanical engineering at Michigan State University has been honored with a national award in recognition of her scientific accomplishments in biomechanics and excellence in mentoring.
DER interim leader
Jacque Shoppell will serve as interim director for the Division of Engineering Research (DER) in the MSU College of Engineering, starting Aug. 24.
A biomedical engineering first
Michigan State University researchers have created for the first time a miniature human heart model in the laboratory, complete with all primary heart cell types and a functioning structure of chambers and vascular tissue.
