The Michigan State University College of Engineering recognized demonstrated excellence and distinguished contributions during the 29th Annual Engineering Awards Luncheon in the Kellogg Center on Friday, March 15. Seven Withrow Teaching Excellence Awards were presented during the annual spring ceremony.

2019 Withrow Awards
The Michigan State University College of Engineering recognized demonstrated excellence and distinguished contributions during the 29th Annual Engineering Awards Luncheon in the Kellogg Center on Friday, March 15. Fifteen faculty and staff members received some of the college's most prestigious awards.
TMS Fellow
Thomas Bieler, a professor of chemical engineering and materials science at Michigan State University, has been named a Fellow of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). The honor is presented to less than 1 percent of the 13,000 members. There are currently less than 100 active fellows in the society.
NSF CAREER Award: H. Metin Aktulga
An assistant professor at Michigan State University will use a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award to develop novel algorithms and software to help computational scientists and big data researchers pare down the challenges of performing large-scale computations on massively parallel computer systems.
Another ARPA-E grant
Michigan State University will share almost $3 million for developing a freshwater recovery system to extract clean irrigation water from hydraulic fracturing wastewater, thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E).
