Satish Udpa, executive vice president for administrative services, has been named acting president of Michigan State University. Udpa is the former dean of the College of Engineering.
International honors for advancing safety
MSU University Distinguished Professor Venkatesh Kodur was honored for his work in advancing fire safety in concrete materials and structural systems during two special ceremonies in India in December.

Jeffrey Nanzer honored by IEEE
Jeffrey Nanzer of Michigan State University will receive the 2019 Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) this summer in Boston.
2018 Achievements
Several important college leadership positions were established in 2018 -Yue Qi was chosen as Associate Dean for Inclusion and Diversity; Theo Caldwell was named Assistant Dean for Student Inclusion and Diversity; and Katy Colbry was appointed Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Services.
National Academy of Inventors
Lawrence Drzal of Michigan State University has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Class of 2018. Drzal is a University Distinguished Professor of chemical engineering and materials science and the director of the MSU Composite Materials and Structures Center.
